1997 Suzuki 650 ls

I just purchased a 1997 Suzuk Savge LS and there is a contant ticking once the bike is running. I would like to know if anymore owners of this bike exprienced a constant tick on thier suzuki or is this comm in this bike because it is a single cylinder. Also I would like to know if this bike is ok to get hot from the engine very fast.
